Coulisses de Bruxelles (Corridors of Brussels), EU
My name is Jean Quatremer. I am a journalist and I have been covering European current affairs for the French daily broadsheet Libération since September 1990. Initially I was in charge of the now defunct “Europe” section — an eight-page weekly supplement focusing on the construction of the community— now I am a European Union correspondent.
I have written two books about Europe: the first one, Ces hommes qui ont fait l’euro, querelles et ambitions européennes (The Men who Made the Euro, European Quarrels and Ambitions), which came out in March 1999 (co-authored by Thomas Klau, journalist for Financial Times Deutschland). The second one, Les maîtres de l’Europe (The Masters of Europe), came out in May 2005 and describes the end of the Jacques Delors years alongside the firm French “non” to the European Constitution referendum.
I launched this blog in December 2005; it has obtained many awards including the Louise Weiss European Journalism Award in 2006 and the ‘European Initiative’ Prize awarded by the Maison de l’Europe and the European Press Club.
Since September 2008 I have presided over the French section of the Association of European Journalists (AEJ) and I have been a jury member, since 2007, of the European Book Prize and since 2010, of the Louise Weiss Award.
