Proud to speak Spanish

In the “Complaints book” section Spanish blogger El Filóloco (Philonuts) proposes a defence of the Spanish language loaded with humour. For him it is not English that should be the universal language but Spanish. And this is the reason:

But what many see as a lack fills me with pride:

If in Spain we only spoke a minority language such as Catalan, Basque or Guarani, I could understand the complexity arising from a lack of linguistic culture …

But the fact that we speak the third world language by number of speakers (after Chinese and English) and the second mother language (after only Chinese) I think that such self-criticism is undeserved and that just as the Anglo-Saxons and  Chinese do not  make the slightest effort to learn other languages, the Spanish should do the same. In other words promote our language forcing others to learn it to communicate with the Spanish speaking world.

If they want to do business with us, they must learn our language.

I realise that my opinion goes against the grain –just like this blog-, but I have always thought that we should give what we receive.

Spanish is a language of the future and in a few decades it will shelve English –the only language in the world where when you read a Word for the first time you don’t know how to pronounce it.

The snobs who take their children to bilingual schools are appalled by my ideas given that they don’t want to throw away the generous “investment” made by the aforementioned parasites so that their children can continue to dominate society just as they have done themselves for decades.

Let’s remove any complexes then and learn to take over the world with our language which is the most beautiful, the most loved and the most worthy.
